The microscopic image above shows brain cells releasing neurotransmitters to send chemical messages to neighboring brain cells. Biologists who study brain activity during learning say that brain cells that fire together wire together. In other words, the more mental connections you make, the better those brain cells will be at letting you recall related ideas. As neighboring brain cells release and receive more chemical signals, they are stimulated to grow more connections to each other.
